Reception: Friday, June 6, 5–7 p.m.
Dedicated is an exhibition in celebration of decades-long active alumni Betty Cooke ’46 (art education), an award-winning jewelry designer and former MICA faculty member, and William O. Steinmetz ’50 (general design), an accomplished artist and designer, former MICA faculty member and current board member. It is a love song, of sorts, telling the tale of two Baltimore natives who met at MICA in the post-WWII era and successfully built their lives around their creative practices.
Comprised of several sections, spanning “Early Days,” “Tyson Street,” “The Store Ltd.,” “Cooke+Steinmetz Design,” “Collecting” and “Legacy,” the exhibition includes original jewelry designs, paintings, design sketches, objects from their personal collection, in addition to photographs and news clippings. Dedicated is a tribute to the artists and their commitment to an aesthetic life, each other, MICA and their hometown.
